My sister Shari and I went to the track and walk/jogged together, she does this all the time so she did 1 1/4 mile to my 1 mile and that was slow for her. It took me 14 minutes tonight because the sun would not go behind the clouds and I was sweating my buns off. I really wanted to go on a bike ride but I wanted company and Tessa said no.
She is saving our long bike ride for this weekend. She is planning on getting me up in the morning (that will be difficult for her as I hate mornings) and then we will ride the biathlon bike route. Which means loading the bikes in the van the night before and checking them over and going to the gas station to properly inflate the tires. I hate hand pumping and the foot pump is too big to take on a ride. I told her I have not practiced hells, I mean hills yet but she says if we do the 20k slowly then we will know what to expect in September. I think that the hills are going to kill me and there are at least 7 in the last half of the Bi and 3 of them are back to back. I wish I was her age and could make it look so easy. The good news is I know I can do it I just want to see what our time is and how much I need to improve to make the trip in 1 hour and 15 minutes.
When we do our other 10 mile bike ride it is mostly inclines with just one hill at the end of the ride. Our average time and speed is 10.4 MPH and it takes us 1 hour, so I think it is feasible for me to do the bike in 1 hour and 15 minutes. The 5k is where I will have the hardest time. I am always slow to transition from a bike to a walk and it will be hard for me to do 15 minute miles after the ride. I honestly just want to finish the biathlon and don't care how long it takes.
This is my first ever entrance in any kind of competition and I will be happy to have completed it and to have done it with my daughter.
